Louis Vuitton and Salvatore Ferragamo

20Did you know that in 1836, when Louis Vuitton was just fourteen years old, he took a year long walk to Paris to find his fortune. Or that he started his business making traveling trunks. As a matter of fact, he made traveling trunks for Napoleon III, and the logos that he put on his canvas travel trunks, back in 1896, were hand painted and used to defy counterfeiters. But one of the most amazing facts, to me, is the age at which this young man started his business.

When I first starting blogging, I wrote a post about Salvatore Ferragamo. I mentioned Salvatore leaving home at the tender age of twelve to start his business, as a shoemaker, that was at age twelve. But, Salvatore must have known by the age of two, that’s right twenty-four months old, that he wanted to become a shoemaker. Because at that age he would visit the local shoemaker, in the village, near his home, and watch him make shoes. His parents did not approve of his behavior, and never wanted him to become a shoemaker. You see, back than, in Italy, shoemaking was a lowly profession, or so it seemed. But young Salvatore knew exactly what he wanted to do, and he did just that. Salvatore was a smart man, he could have chosen a different profession. He would, eventually obtaining two college degrees, one was in engineering, but designing shoes was his passion.

During most of Salvatore’s career, Ferragamos were made by hand, the shoes had to fit well and If one of his clients developed corns, or had problems with the shoes he made, Salvatore took it to heart, It disturbed him, and he would correct the problem. Therefore when the customer came back, for the shoes, they were sure to fit comfortably. Customer satisfaction was very important to young Salvatore, this is one of the reasons why he was not very fond of mass production, he felt that machines were not able to produce good fitting shoes. Although, later in his career he did use it, but only for a short time and that was after much convincing from his brothers. This must have been true for Louis Vuitton also, because, I don’t think there was much mass producing going on in the 1800’s. Do you?

While doing my research about fashion designers, I’ve found that many of the young European designers have such drive and determination. They seem to know exactly what they want to do, even at a very early age, they do it and they do it well and even after they are long gone, their styles, their names, and their designs live on. I wish I had my mind made up, as to what I wanted to do, at the age of twelve. Surely, this would be different for me now.

Louis Vuitton Bags

18So you’ve wanted to get yourself that Louis Vuitton bag but are not sure if you really ought to? I know, they don’t come cheap and you want to make sure that your money is well spent. Well, I’ll walk you through why you must get yourself a Vuitton – it’s an investment of a lifetime. Here we go:

1. In bag world, nothing beats Vuitton when it comes to quality. There are many other great designers out there who make great quality bags, but Vuitton is top of the range. And has been for decades.

2. Vuitton bags are easy to recognize because of their unique shape. They have a solid appearance and have firm curves and tend to be able to stand by themselves. This partly comes from the design and also from the tough material they are made of. So if you’re looking for a bag that’s not floppy, Vuitton is the best bet.

3. Vuitton bags come in great variety. There are shoulder bags, hand bags, waist bags, you name it, and they have it. It means you can have a whole set of Vuittons to suit different occasions.

4. Vuitton makes bags for both men and women – not many designers do that. So if you’re looking for a special bag for your man, a Vuitton is a sure solution. They make great shoulder bags as well as grip bags and will make your man look like he has great fashion sense.

5. They have unisex bags as well. So guess what, you can buy a single bag that both you and your significant other can get to enjoy depending on whose turn it is..

6. They last for years. Vuitton as a label has been around for decades and that’s because the brand has not failed its customers. If you buy a Vuitton, you can expect to have it around for the next ten years at least. Isn’t that worth something? You may be wondering, what if it goes out of fashion? Well, Vuittons are not fad bags. They are made to be stylish and chic and stand the test of changing fashion. So don’t worry, you can change your wardrobe but your Vuitton will faithfully stand by your side.

7. More on durability: they are both water proof and fire proof. This comes from the combination of materials that are used to create them – canvas for waterproofing and PVC for fireproofing. That’s not a quality you’ll find in many goods, let alone bags.

8. All Vuittons are handmade. This is actually a company policy, so that they can control the number of bags that get into the market. In fact, did you know that you can only buy one bag of one type of Vuitton per client? That tells you about quality as well as the designer’s interest in making sure that his clients only get the best.

You may be wondering about Vuitton replicas by now. They are easy to spot. Vuitton bags have a unique smell because of the type of leather that is used. If you’re not a leather smelling expert, check the lining. It’s a mixture of canvas and cloth and the fabric grain is visible. The price will also tell you – Vuittons don’t come cheap, so if someone is offering you a cheap one, know straight away that it’s a fake.

Story of Louis Vuitton and Louis Vuitton Designer Bags

17Louis Vuitton was born in France in 1821. At the age of 14 he travelled to Paris by foot. At the age of 16 he became developed a skill in luggage making.

The way that Vuitton got taught would enable him to work in a business by himself and set the stage for when he later started the creation for one of the most desired brands in the world. Vuitton opened his own shop in 1854 in Paris.

Louis Vuitton which is commonly shortened to LV has been a French fashion house founded since 1854. The label LV is well known for its monogram and is featured on all their products, such as leather goods ready-to-wear shoes, watches, jewellery and many more. All of Louis Vuitton products are sold through small boutiques in high-ended department stores. It’s one of the leading international fashion houses in the world. The manufactures of LV since 19th century are still making the luggage by hand.

When Louis Vuitton first started he made large trunks and luggage, he also made handbags which were mostly made out of leather. In 1888 Louis came out with a new damier pattern which was a light brown checkerboard and dark brown boxes which was making it look like a classic and luxurious look. Soon after in 1896 Vuitton came out with the classic line, the monogram Canvas, which is a known icon of the LV brand today, it is the most popular to this day.

The line originally was created in the 12 classic styles; over time Vuitton decided that he wanted to add monogram canvas. In 1924 Vuitton had added the Keepall plus in three different sizes, then again in 1932 added the noe handbag.

Now that Louis Vuitton is selling all his goods at a high price, while the lower quality goods were rapidly available, we had to know that people were going to use this to trade in cash to this opportunity. LV is the most replicated designers, while some people say that it is the biggest compliment you could give someone. The replicas of sold Louis Vuitton bags are really common in the USA, If you live in a large city you may notice it yourself.

If you happen to notice a Louis Vuitton bag sold at a price which is cheap it is made from poor quality materials and are also sold for half the price a normal Vuitton bag is sold for.

Louis Vuitton Carryall Review

16The Louis Vuitton Carryall luggage bag is one of the products in the Monogram canvas family of Louis Vuitton products. Other quite similar bags in this family include the likes of the Keepall 55 bag, the Deauville and the Sac Chasse Bag; among others. While I confess to being an old-time fan of Louis bags, having used so many of the products from this label, it is the Carryall – which I have only gotten to use quite recently – that I have been most enchanted with.

As befits a ‘luggage bag’ Louis Vuitton Carryall is quite a huge bag. In terms of length, we are looking at about 16 inches, with the height towering at 11 inches and the bag’s diameter being some 12 inches. These dimensions make it a bag on which you can carry quite a bit of stuff; without the bag having to bulge too much and mess up with your image. The fact that it is based on the considerably sturdy monogram canvas makes Carryall even more suited for use a luggage bag.

The color scheme on the Carryall is dark brown with cream crosses all over; creating an impression of a checked outer covering. This color scheme also helps make Carryall a rather stylish looking (and classical) bag. The crosses are either ‘standalone’ in the brown background, or enclosed in circular or diagonal (parallelogram-shaped) ‘casings.’

Louis Vuitton Carryall is as exciting on the inside as on the outside. Open the bag, and you are met with a soft textile lining; the very inviting variety. For the stuff you don’t want to get mixed up with the rest, Vuitton provides you with quite a generous interior pocket on the Louis Vuitton Carryall where you can keep such stuff.

For a securing mechanism, Louis provides the users of the Louis Vuitton Carryall with a zipper mechanism. And as befits a true ‘luggage’ bag, the zipper here ends, on the one side, with a provision for a padlock; so that you can actually secure the bag further with a padlock.

For trimmings, Louis Vuitton has opted to use leather on the Carryall. This is the variety of leather that is referred to as being naturally oxidizing. Such leather, thanks to this natural oxidation mechanism, only gets better with age (like wine).

All said and done, Carryall comes across as an ideal bag for a number of applications. One of these is as a sports bag – where the bag can be particularly ideal. Second is as an ordinary ‘weekend bag’ – you know, the sort you go shopping with (of course for light shopping). Even for travelling, especially where you are ‘travelling light,’ Carryall could be a good bag too. It is a bag into which you can fit all the kit a lady needs, yet still look stylish when straddling with it under your arm.
